so a couple months ago i was driving home late in my lotus emira, it's not some insane hypercar but it looks fast and people always assume stuff when they see it. I'm just cruising through a quiet
  • neighborhood, speed limit's 35, i'm doing maybe 30, nothing crazy. then out of nowhere this old suv flies through a stop siign and clips the back corner of my car. hard. i spin a bit
  • and end up half on someone's lawn. the suv just drives off like nothing happened. no stop, no slow down, just gone.i call the cops right away. car's messed up, i'm fine thankfully but ped. cop
  • shows up, takes one look at my car and literally goes "you sure you didn't just lose control? trying to show off or something?" like bro what. i tell him exactly what happened and i even say i've got dashcam
  • footage. he just cuts me off, doesn't even want to hear it, and says "these kinds of cars don't just get hit. people crash them.” no joke. like just because i drive a lotus, i must've caused it myself. he ends
  • up writing me a citation for reckless driving and says there's no proof another car was involved. doesn't look at the dashcam. nothing. just shrugs and leaves. i was so done with
  • LOTUS L OT US
  • itso i take it to court. i show up with everything. dashcam footage that clearly shows the suv blowing the stop sign and hitting me. i've got a screenshot with the license
  • plate. gps data from the car showing i was doing 30. even a short statement from the guy whose lawn i ended up on saying he saw it happen.cop gets up and says i probably just lost
  • control. judge asks if he reviewed the dashcam footage. he says no. so we play it in court. clear as day, suv hits me and takes off. whole room is quiet. judge looks at the cop and
  • basically goes "you should've looked at this before filing the report." tosses the citation out on the spot. done.they send the hit and run to actual investigators. two weeks
  • later they find the guy. turns out he was driving on a suspended license and had priors. real winner. got my car fixed. didn't have to pay for it. guy's facing charges now. cop didn't say a word after court, just walked out. get a dashcam. seriously.
  • Realistic-Glass-146 I am willing to bet that not a single consequence was to be had by that police officer.
  • weirdal 1968 In the 1950s my mom worked as the secretary in traffic at the local PD. She had a mind like a steel trap and probably knew traffic laws better than certain officers.
  • Fast forward three decades and one dark rainy night mom drives past the exit to a restaurant and has to make a u-turn on a divided highway. Cop pulls her over and gives her a ticket for an illegal uturn.
  • Mom returns the next day taking polaroids and drawing diagrams of the highway because she wanted to contest the ticket. She knew the spot where she made the U turn was not marked with a "no uturn" sign. Having
  • written up countless accident reports with proper diagrams she knew how to present her case. She contested the ticket and presented the judge with her photos and drawings. Judge
  • immediately threw out the ticket and a couple months later a proper "no uturn" sign appeared at that spot. Every time we drove past that "no uturn" sign everyone in the car heard the story again. Can't blame her for being proud of that win.
  • Coder Joe1 Ya sure you can drive, because you can't even hit the shift key?
  • HerbertRTarlekJr Just got backed into yesterday. Dashcams ftw.
  • Milhun The petty revenge was typing this with no paragraphs
  • nightshade00013 Love my dashcam. Replaces my rear view mirror with a video feed but can use as a regular mirror as well. Makes lane
  • changes amazingly easy and I've recorded so much stupid junk people do it's not funny. Haven't needed to use it in an accident situation yet but I'm ready when I need it.
  • The other day I had someone blow past me in a no passing zone with almost no view of oncoming traffic while doing around 90 in a 65. Then down the road they missed their turn and turned around in the middle of the road.
